Precision Optical has acquired its first 3D printer, and with it has added new rapid prototyping, tooling, manufacturing, and engineering capabilities.

Precision Optical has a long history of producing extremely precise optical flats. Even more so in recent years, Precision Optical has enhanced its ability to manufacture optical flats by adding more continuous polishers, higher-resolution metrology equipment, and large aperture interferometery.

Precision Optical recently acquired a NanoCam Sq dynamic surface profiler from 4D Technologies. This lightweight, portable profilometer has dynamic surface acquisition. This means rather than placing optics underneath the instrument, the instrument itself can be moved to, or on top of the optic under test.

Precision Optical recently acquired a custom-designed Goniomat M5 XL from Vermont Photonics. This compact, high precision goniometer, manufactured by Moller-Wedel Optical, is ideal for making in-process measurements within our polishing department.

Precision Optical has greatly enhanced its angular and beam deviation measurement capabilities through the acquisition of a PrismMaster HR Mot goniometer from Trioptics USA. The goniometer is an extremely valuable addition to our shop, providing us with the capability to obtain absolute angle measurement capabilities, as opposed to the relative angle measurements obtained using traditional autocollimation techniques.

Precision Optical has been selected to manufacture several of the optics for Keck Cosmic Web Imager for the W. M. Keck Observatory telescope atop Mauna Kea on the Big Island of Hawaii.

Precision Optical manufactures custom corner cube retroreflector with ¼ arc second average beam deviation, 1/20th arc second angles, and 1/8 wave transmitted wavefront.

Precision Optical has recently expanded its capabilities to include the assembly of large optical flats into metal housing assemblies. The large optical flats are manufactured in house to meet exacting surface quality, flatness, and homogeneity specifications before being assembled for our customer’s application requirements.

The NOVA-ASTRON Optical-Infrared Instrumentation group in The Netherlands is a national institute that develops instrumentation on world-class optical telescopes to serve the Dutch astronomical community. Currently MATISSE (Multi-AperTure Mid-Infrared SpectroScopic Experiment) is being built.
